Job Description

Position: Part-Time Pre-K Teacher for Westside Preschool

Westside is a parent participation preschool that has nurtured families for over 40 years. The school offers a developmental play-based program for 60 children ages 2 to 5 years as well as family networking and parent education. The school is run by a board of parent volunteers operating under the authority of the school membership. Westside is looking for a creative and energetic individual who enjoys teaching and working with young children and providing parent education. This is an opportunity to work with a friendly and enthusiastic team of teachers and parents to enhance children’s development through play.

 

Position Goals:

Teacher is responsible for creating and implementing a play-based curriculum for a class of up to 20 children that meets 3 times per week. In addition, the teacher is responsible for supervising and coaching parent volunteers in the class and promoting parent education regarding child development.

 

Detailed responsibilities:

  • Design activities that are developmentally appropriate for children in the areas of art, cooking, science, outdoor large motor activities, dramatic play, and language development.
  • Lead greeting and goodbye circles times that engage children in age appropriate music, movement, literature, and language development activities.
  • Promote social skills in children using positive discipline and effective conflict resolution strategies.
  • Create a stimulating indoor and outdoor environment.
  • Create a snack menu each month which meets nutritional guidelines.
  • Create a curriculum calendar each month listing activities, field trips, and important dates.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings to discuss curriculum and school operations.
  • Attend 1 evening meetings a month: a General Membership/Parent Education meeting. Be flexible to attend other meetings as necessary.
  • Plan and conduct parent education sessions throughout the year for your class.

 

Qualifications:

  • Child Development Permit or at least 12 units in Early Childhood Education (ECE) courses including core classes.
  • Previous experience working with young children and proven classroom management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree, desired.
  • Involvement in Parent Participation Preschool or Co-op Nursery School as parent or teacher is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in balancing needs of children and adults in a positive way.

 

Hours:

(Part-time) 3 days per week (8:30am -12:30pm) plus 1 evening meetings a month. 35 weeks, Aug - May.

 

Salary:

Starting at $20/hour based on education and years of experience.
